DNREC Enforcement Agents arrested a Townsend man for trespassing and theft at the Cedar Swamp Wildlife Area. Agents were investigating vandalism and illegal entry into buildings on the wildlife area when they spotted 70 year old Charles Bachman trying to remove a lightning rod from the roof of a barn behind a DNREC property. Bachman was cited for trespassing and theft under $1500.
Two Seaford men have been charged by DNREC Enforcement Agents with illegal possession of river herring during a closed season. 54 year old Brice Smart was also charged with illegal possession since a ban on river herring went into effect last year in the First State. Smart is free on a $150 unsecured bond and cannot fish in Delaware waters until his case is decided. 25 year old Michael Schaffers was also cited for illegal possession oriver herring.
DNREC Enforcement Agents have increased their presence at the new, under construction C & D Canal Trail and handed out 6 citations – 2 for illegal dumping, 3 for fishing without a license and one for driving without a license. Also while investigating a complaint for illegal hunting near the new trail citizens reported 4 pit bulls running loose. The dogs were captured by the SPCA and taken to a shelter.
