This summer the Delmarva Shorebirds are joining with Perdue Farms to announce the 2013 Perdue Strike Out Hunger on Delmarva Campaign. A $15,000 challenge grant has been issued by Perdue – and funded through the Arthur W. Perdue Foundation to benefit the Eastern Shore Branch of the Maryland Food Bank, the Food Bank of Delaware and the Eastern Shore Branch of the Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia. The first $10,000 of the challenge grant is divided equally between the food banks, which must raise the equivalent of 10,000 meals to claim their share of the $10,000 – it can be pounds of food collected, funds collected and donated or volunteer efforts. Perdue will also donate $10 for each strike out of an opposing batter – up to $5000, which will also be split evenly between the three food banks. The Sunday home games are Strike Out Hunger Sundays – bring 2 non-perishable food items and receive a general admission ticket for that day’s game for just $2.
