DE Senate Expected to Vote TODAY on Death Penalty Repeal

Mar 26, 2013 -- 6:18am

The Delaware Senate is today expected to vote on a bill repealing Delaware's death penalty.

Supporters of the bill argue that the death penalty is morally wrong; the Delaware Police Chiefs' Council opposes the legislation. Gov. Jack Markell has NOT yet said what side of the fence he’s on.

There are currently 17 men on death row in Delaware; if the law is approved by the General Assembly and signed by Gov. Markell, those men would be moved off death row and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
