For many people – spring cleaning is an annual ritual. It’s also a good time to check your home and yard for dangerous materials and unsafe conditions. Look for hazards – frayed or damaged appliance cords, wiring, fuses or breakers and piles of rubbish and yard debris. Take recyclables to be recycled, look for water leaks especially near electrical appliances. Be sure there’s enough space between combustibles and heating appliances. Be sure flammable items are marked and stored in a cool, dry place and away from children – and all chemicals are also locked up and out of reach of kids and pets. Check your smoke alarms. Be sure doors and windows open easily and be sure your storm kit is ready for the approaching storm season.
