Crews Respond to Structure Fire in Dewey Beach

Mar 16, 2013 -- 5:12pm

UPDATED MARCH 17 BY ANDREW KOCH: The Delaware State Fire Marshal is now investigating a house fire between Dewey Beach and Rehoboth Beach that broke out Saturday afternoon.

Just after 4:30 p.m., firefighters from Lewes, Rehoboth Beach and Indian River were called for a fire on Holly Ridge Drive in the Coastal Manor Community, just off of The Forgotten Mile between Rehoboth and Dewey. When firefighters arrived, they saw thick flames and smoke pouring out of the side of the house. They cut holes in the roof and attic to vent the fire, and then went inside to put it out. Firefighters had to call the Delaware Electric Cooperative to turn off power to the house.

No one was injured in the fire, and it's unknown at this time how much damage was caused by the smoke, flames and water.
