Salisbury-Ocean City: Wicomico Regional Airport Faces Tower Closure if Federal Sequester Happens March 1

Feb 23, 2013 -- 4:33am

Next week’s POSSIBLE federal sequester could have a huge impact on the air transportation industry.

Maryland Senator Barbara Mikulski released a statement Friday morning announcing that next week’s POSSIBLE sequester would cut over $600 million from the Federal Aviation Administration. That means an estimated 47,000 employees would have to be furloughed.

If the sequester happens on Friday, March 1, the Department of Transportation would close the air traffic control tower at the Salisbury-Ocean City: Wicomico Regional Airport.

The Salisbury airport would NOT be the only small airport affected by the sequester. Airports in Easton, Frederick and Hagerstown also face tower closures.
