Proposals to Protect Public Safety Focus on Tougher Bail for Repeat Offenders

Legislation proposed today could make it harder to make bail for dangerous, violent criminals – and it’s possible their bail request could be denied by a judge.  Officials say that too often dangerous criminals commit violent crimes while out on bail and tightening the existing bail system will better protect the public.  The legislation would amend Delaware’s constitution to allow judges to have the discretion to order dangerous defendants to be held without bond if they’re deemed too dangerous to release.
