DNREC Holding Public Hearing About DBE's Lighthouse Cove Amenities

Feb 08, 2013 -- 5:41pm

DNREC will be holding a public hearing tonight at the Bay Center in Dewey Beach.

The hearing is about the planned amenities at Dewey Beach Enterprises’ Lighthouse Cove, formerly Ruddertowne property. DBE, as part of its redevelopment project, is planning to put in a 330-foot-long, 16-foot-wide walkway over the Rehoboth Bay around the Lighthouse Cove complex. The bay walk would feature platforms for fishing, crabbing and bird watching. DBE is also planning to use sand excavated from the Hyatt Place Hotel construction side to expand the bay beach on Van Dyke Street, next to the Que Pasa restaurant. The bay walk and expanded bay beach would fulfill the terms of both the Mutual Agreement and Release between DBE and the town, and the town's Comprehensive Development Plan, to enhance public access to Rehoboth Bay.

The hearing will begin at 6 o'clock, and run until 9.
