After a year of work, Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin is ready to launch its new electronic patient records system.
The Patient Electronic Record-Keeping Service, or PERKS, will be launched on Monday. The system is designed to make the hospital’s delivery of healthcare more efficient. The system will allow physicians to place their test orders electronically, alert doctors and nurses to conflicts when giving patients medicine, and improve the coordination of care for patients.
Atlantic General started using electronic medical records in 2008 in its outpatient practices, and installed the electronic system in the Emergency Department in 2011.
