Smyrna Woman Arrested for Abusing Corpse

Jan 24, 2013 -- 10:53am

Delaware State Police have arrested a 56-year-old Smyrna woman after she failed to report the death of her boyfriend and then hid him in a box.

Police say they received an anonymous tip on January 16 informing them there was a dead body located at a home on Spruce Court in Holly Hill Estates.

Police say Ariane Clark lived in the house with her 60-year-old boyfriend; Clark told officers that her boyfriend was dead and could be found in a wooden footlocker sealed with duct tape in the bedroom; she told police her boyfriend died on January 6 and she put him in the box after she noticed that his passport had expired. Clark’s boyfriend is from Germany and she thought he may have been in the country illegally and she would get in trouble for supporting an illegal alien.

An autopsy was conducted on the remains and the cause of death has been ruled undetermined at this time. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin and positive identification.

Clark was arrested Wednesday and charged with abusing a corpse; she was released after posting $5,000 bail.
