Delaware Farmers Encouraged To Apply For Conservation Programs

Jan 24, 2013 -- 10:39am

Farmers are being encouraged to apply for assistance to conserve their land through a pair of conservation programs.

Farmers can apply for the federal Wetlands Reserve Program and Grassland Reserve Program through the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). The Wetlands Preserve Program helps landowners get financial assistance to protect, restore and enhance wetlands on their properties. The Grassland Reserve Program helps landowners restore, protect and rehabilitate grassland and pastureland. The program is designed to keep the use of grasslands from being changed.

The deadline to apply for funding for this fiscal year is March 15. Applications should be sent in to a local NRCS office.
