Sen Pettyjohn Announces New Bill to Keep Delawareans Safer

Jan 16, 2014 -- 5:19pm

Legislation to keep Delawareans safer has been announced by Senator Brian Pettyjohn of Georgetown.  This legislation would expand the crime of possession and purchase of deadly weapons by persons prohibited – to include perpetrators of violent crimes who have been found not guilty by reason of insanity, guilty but mentally ill or mentally incompetent to stand trial – including juveniles in those categories.  If the bill sounds familiar – part of it comes from HB 88 which died earlier this week, but it’s only a narrow part of the earlier measure that had broad support.  Representative Ruth Briggs King of Georgetown is the co-prime sponsor – the bill is now being circulated for co-sponsorship.
