New wastewater system regulations go into effect on Saturday. DNREC Secretary Collin O’Mara says these revised regulations are essential for protecting the health of our families, strengthening the economy and ensuring cleaner, healthier water quality for our bays, rivers and streams. The new regulations keep pace with changes in technology for large and small systems and will help Delaware meet its goal of achieving clean water. They also protect homebuyers from acquiring malfunctioning septic systems. Effective Saturday the regulations include – all septic systems will require inspection prior to property transfers, create new inspection protocols for system contractors and inspectors, and allow homeowners to maintain their own innovative/alternative system, once certified through a homeowner training program.
