Two women were arrested after a large amount of both heroin and cocaine were seized during a traffic stop.
Delaware State Police say just before 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon, Troopers pulled over a 2013 Toyota Corolla for following another vehicle too closely on southbound Route 1 near Middletown Odessa Road. While talking with the driver, 35-year-old Javona Smith of Chesapeake, Virginia, he smelled burnt marijuana. The car’s paperwork showed that it was a rental, and wasn’t allowed to leave Virginia. Troopers searched the car, and found a plastic bag with 170 grams of cocaine and 515 grams of heroin inside a jacket. Detectives say the drugs are worth nearly $70,000, and can be sold on the street for more than $250,000.
Smith and her passenger, 40-year-old Sherita Nicks of New York City, have been charged with possession of a controlled substance and second-degree conspiracy. They’re being held at the Baylor Women’s Correctional Institute on $54,000 bail.
