A Hartly man has been arrested for sexually abusing two young girls.
Delaware State Police were called to a home on Fords Corner Road on Wednesday for a reported case of sexual abuse. Troopers say on Tuesday, 33-year-old Shawn Burnett was babysitting for his roommate’s 13-year-old daughter and an 11-year-old girl who was a neighbor. While he was there, State Police say he gave the girls liquor and muscle relaxers, then took them up to his bedroom and started playing “Truth or Dare.” During the game, he allegedly made inappropriate advances on the girls. The girls told their mothers about this on Wednesday, and they kicked Burnett out of the house and called State Police.
Burnett is charged with first and second-degree sexual abuse of a child by a person of trust, and two counts each of endangering the welfare of a child and providing alcohol to minors. He’s being held at the Vaughn Correctional Center on $174,002 cash bond.
