The body that was found Wednesday off of Route 13 in New Castle has been identified.
The Delaware State Medical Examiner’s office has identified the body as 49-year-old John Heeney of Delaware City through dental records. The autopsy found no apparent signs of trauma or foul play. The cause and manner of death is still being investigated.
Heeney’s partially clothed, decomposing body was found on a grassy embankment by a maintenance crew that was working on a billboard along the highway late Wednesday morning. Delaware State Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the gruesome discovery.
