A benefit 5K will be run this morning to honor the memory of a Sussex County Paramedic who was killed in the line of duty.
Registration for the fifth annual Stephanie Calloway Giggle Medic 5K will begin at 8 o’clock this morning at Irish Eyes on the canal in Lewes. Long-sleeve T-shirts will be handed out to the first 200 people who’ve registered. The run and walk will begin at 9, and the course will travel along Cedar Road in Lewes. After the race, prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in 10 different age groups from 9 and under all the way up to 70 and over. Race participants will then be able to enjoy hamburgers, hot dogs, and alcoholic beverages for those who are of legal drinking age.
Proceeds from the race will benefit the Stephanie Calloway Memorial Scholarship Fund, which presents scholarships to students who are pursuing careers in the emergency medical services field. Stephanie Calloway died in 2008 when the ambulance she was riding in while treating a patient crashed.
