MD Candidate for Governor, Heather Mizeur (D), Proposes Education Change

Oct 18, 2013 -- 1:39pm

When it comes to education, Heather Mizeur (Mih-zeer) wants to shift away from high-stakes testing and renew Maryland’s commitment to public education funding.  During a press conference Thursday in Baltimore, the Democratic candidate for governor says she wants a moratorium on using standardized test results for educator evaluations.  She also wants to look at the initial effectiveness of the PARCC assessment and look at other options.  She says students need to be not only college and career ready, but also innovation ready in order to compete in the future.  Mizeur unveiled proposals aimed at closing the achievement gap through early childhood and afterschool investments.
