Naval Historian Will Discuss Submarine Action, Military Vigilance During World War II in Cape Region

Oct 18, 2013 -- 11:34am

Submarine action during wartime will be subject of tonight’s program for the Lewes Historical Society.

Naval historian Bill Manthorpe will be the guest speaker for tonight’s presentation, entitled “Submarines at the Cape…Friend and Foe.” Manthorpe will discuss the vigilance displayed around Cape Henlopen by the U.S. Navy and the rest of the military during World War II. He says that increased vigilance was the result of a destroyer that was sunk by a German U-boat off Cape Henlopen in February 1942.

The presentation will begin at 7:30 tonight in the Fellowship Hall at the Lewes Presbyterian Church on Kings Highway in Lewes.
