Government Slowdown Affects Delmarva

Oct 01, 2013 -- 5:09pm

BLACKWATER NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE:  The government shutdown is affecting some locations here on Delmarva.  Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge is closed and officials say public access to service properties will be prohibited and fish & wildlife management activities and public programs are cancelled.  That includes the hunting program which is closed until further notice.

DOVER AIR FORCE BASE:  There’s no National Park in Delaware to close during the government slowdown, however Dover Air Force Base did begin an orderly shutdown of government activities right after midnight.  About 500 of the civilian workers were placed on emergency furlough.  The base exchange will remain open as will other non-appropriated fund and AAFES-related facilities – like the Shoppette, base theater, lodging and the dining facility.  However the library and commissary will be closed until further notice.
