More than 800 extreme athletes will be taking on the ocean and streets around Bethany Beach in the second annual Bethany Beach First Responders Triathlon-Duathlon.
Athletes will take part in an aqua-bike, duathlon or triathlon. The aqua-bike is new this year, and will feature a 1,000-meter swim, a 30K bike, and a 400-meter run. The duathlon will be a 1K run on the beach, a 30k bike and a 7K run. The triathlon will be a 1K swim, a 30K bike and a 7K run. The transition area will be on Garfield Parkway at Atlantic Avenue. The race will begin at 7:30 Sunday morning, and is sanctioned by USA Triathlon. The routes will stretch from South Bethany up to the Indian River Inlet Bridge. The race will end on the Boardwalk, with an awards ceremony on the bandstand, followed by a catered after-party and beer garden.
Proceeds from the race will benefit Autism Speaks and Share-A-Lot.
