Governor Jack Markell will be joined by DNREC Secretary Collin O’Mara, EPA Regional Administrator Shawn Garvin and representatives of conservation organizations to recognize the first-ever Sea Level Rise Awareness Week.
The event will be held at the DuPont Environmental Education Center in Wilmington starting at 10 o’clock. Sea Level Rise Awareness Week is being put on by a campaign called S.O.S. Delaware. According to conservation groups, Delaware, with the lowest mean elevation of any state in the U.S. at 60 feet, is already feeling the impacts of sea level rise.
As part of today’s event, Governor Markell will sign an Executive Order to prepare Delaware for emerging climate-related impacts, and to seize on economic opportunities from reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
