One man is dead, and another had to be rescued by firefighters after jumping off a bridge in Cambridge.

A passing driver contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Baltimore around 5 o’clock Wednesday evening, and reported that the two 18-year-olds were wearing swim trunks when they jumped off the Senator Malkus Jr. Bridge into the Choptank River. The witness said one of the men didn’t resurface.

Firefighters aboard the Cambridge Fire Department’s fireboat rescued one of the men, while dive crews from Dorchester County found the other unresponsive.

A response boat from Coast Guard Station Oxford, along with crews from the Maryland State Police and Natural Resources Police helped out in the search.
