The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning today through Wednesday for New Castle County.
Forecasters say a six to seven day mid-summer heat wave will continue through Friday or Saturday. And a nearly stationary high pressure to our south will produce hot days and muggy nights every day this week.
The highest heat indices will occur between 1 and 6 p.m. today through Wednesday; heat index values are expected to be between 100 and 103 degrees.
Heat illness is likely over the next several days, especially for anyone working outside. Doctors are recommending drinking plenty of fluid, take frequent breaks in AC if possible or at least get out of the sun into the shade. Anyone with upper respiratory ailments, the elderly and the extremely young should stay indoors as much as possible for the next several days.
