It took DNREC Fish & Wildlife and Delaware State Parks staff, DelDOT’s Traffic Safety office and the State Police to help with a relocation on Wednesday near the Indian River Inlet Bridge. The relocation was for a 4-day old American oystercatcher chick that hatched on June 8 on the wrong side of Route 1. The chick and its parents were all safely relocated to the bayside of Delaware Seashore State Park but not quite according to plan. The chick was caught and taken to its new home with the hopes that the parents would follow, but they continued to circle the abandoned nest. Next they worked to capture the adult oystercatchers and brought them to the new home – and the family was reunited.
