The House Administration Committee on Wednesday release a bill aimed at protecting transgender people in Delaware by outlawing discrimination based on gender identity.
Senate Bill 97 is now expected to be voted on by the full House up in Dover next week.
The legislation was approved by the State Senate last week; it adds gender identity to the existing list of protected nondiscrimination categories, including race, age, religion and sexual orientation. The bill also allows for enhanced penalties under Delaware's hate crimes law for targeting someone based on his or her gender identity.
