Bill Requiring Mandatory Reporting of Lost or Stolen Weapons Signed into Law

Jun 12, 2013 -- 7:48pm

Delaware became the 8th State to require that gun owners report lost or stolen firearms to police.  Senate Bill 16 was signed into law by Governor Jack Markell on Wednesday.  The measure gives gun owners who discover a weapon missing 7 days to report that loss to police.  Police say this bill is an effective way to prevent someone buying a weapon and giving it to someone prohibited from having one.   For a first offense violators will receive a fine of $75 to $100, a second offense is a fine of $100 to $250.  A third offense is a class G felony.
