Dewey Beach Becomes 5th Coastal Town to Ban Smoking on Beach

May 13, 2013 -- 4:23am

Smokers listen up; big changes are coming to Dewey Beach this summer. The Dewey Beach Mayor and Council Saturday unanimously approved a smoking ban and an amendment to the resort’s noise ordinance.

Smoking will NO longer will be allowed on the beach in Dewey or in any of the town’s parks. Meantime, the noise ordinance which is used to regulate noise from bands and DJ's at area nightclubs was lowered from 75 to 72 bass decibels.

Dewey is now the fifth coastal town to restrict smoking.

Earlier this year, Fenwick Island enacted a smoking ban and Bethany Beach also bans smoking on its beach and in state parks. And in Rehoboth Beach and Lewes, smoking is already banned in parks and playgrounds.
