A ground-breaking new study released today by Common Cause Delaware shows the state’s top 20 donors to political candidates, committees and parties from 2007-2012, and exposes several weaknesses in Delaware’s lobbying and campaign finance laws.
“Top Donors In Delaware” also takes advantage of the state’s new lobbying law, which requires lobbyists to report the numbers of the bills on which they are lobbying, to offer an unprecedented look at how political spending influences public policy in Delaware.
Among the study’s key findings is the fact that many donors give to both the Democratic State Central Committee and the Republican State Committee at the same time. The number one campaign contributor on Common Cause’s Top 20 list is AstraZeneca with $693,000 in campaign contributions between 2007 and 2012.
The “Top Donors In Delaware” study will be discussed in detail at a Common Cause event at Fish On in Lewes starting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
