UPDATED 4-8-13 - The man involved in a crash Saturday night south of Ellendale has died from his injuries. State Police say a Jeep Cherokee driven by 63 year old Kenneth Grinnell of Millsboro went off Route 113 south of McColleys Chapel Road and when he tried to correct, but left the roadway again and hit a tree. The impact caused the jeep to spin, hit a ditch and went airborne. Grinnell was ejected and flown to Christiana Medical Center – he died this morning from his injuries.
Delaware State Police today are investigating a single vehicle crash that seriously injured a Millsboro man Saturday night.
Police say the incident occurred around 10:30 p.m., as Kenneth Grinnell was southbound on Route 113 in his Jeep Grand Cherokee; police say for unknown reasons, the Cherokee left the west side of the road; Grinnell attempted to correct the issue and the vehicle re-entered the road and then back to the right before traveling off the west side of the road where it struck a tree.
The impact caused the vehicle to rotate in a clockwise manner and continue southbound where it struck a ditch and became airborne before coming to a stop.
Grinnell, who was not properly restrained, was ejected from the vehicle upon impact. He was removed from the scene by EMS and initially transported to Milford Memorial Hospital before being flown to Christiana Medical Center. The extent and seriousness of Grinnell's injuries are unknown at this time.
Troopers are continuing their investigation into this incident.
