Parksley Woman Charged with Arson Makes First Appearance in Court

Apr 04, 2013 -- 4:12am

40-year-old Tonya Bundick of Parksley who was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with setting a fire Monday night in Melfa, was in court Wednesday for arraignment.

Judge Gordon Vincent granted Bundick’s request for a public defender.

Bundick and her fiancé Charles Smith have been charged with one count each of arson and conspiracy to commit arson.

Smith did NOT appear in court Wednesday as initially scheduled; that’s because he’s hired an attorney and his arraignment has now been scheduled for sometime in May. Both continue to be held without bail.

Virginia State Police say more charges against the two are likely since police believe they are responsible for setting a majority of the 77 arson fires in Accomack County since November last year.
