The county health departments on the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland will be holding free whooping cough vaccination clinics next month.
The Wicomico, Worcester and Somerset County Health Departments will be holding the clinics on April 2. The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and the Maryland Partnership for Prevention will be providing the T-dap vaccine, which is a booster shot that’ll increase protection for whooping cough, tetanus and diphtheria.
Whooping cough is a very contagious disease that’s especially dangerous for infants. So far this year, Washington, D.C. and every state except one reported an increase in whooping cough cases between 2011 and 2012.
