Wilmington Man to be Honored with Congressional Gold Medal

Mar 02, 2013 -- 3:34pm

Senator Tom Carper and Representative John Carney will honor a Wilmington man Monday.   Fred Johnson of Wilmington was the only commissioned black navigator from Delaware during World War II.  He was a member of the Tuskegee Airmen, but did not receive his Congressional Gold Medal when awards were given to these airmen in the past.  Senator Carper and Representative Carney along with National Guard General Frank Vavala and local leaders will present Johnson with his Congressional Gold Medal during a ceremony at Howard High School Monday afternoon.
