DelDOT officials pleaded their budget case before state lawmakers earlier this week. The plan is to continue to reduce the department’s $1.08-billion debt, but still keep the state’s roads in good repair. Secretary Shailen Bhatt plans to postpone $46-million in capital projects and several other projects will be delayed – some a few months like the widening of Route 26 which will now not begin until fall – and some could be delayed a few years. Projects that are already underway will proceed. There was no increase in tolls, fees or Transportation Trust Fund taxes.
