The Bethany Beach Streetscape project has been an ongoing project for over 10 years. Mayor Tony McClenny tells WGMD that before any streetscaping could begin they had to bury the utilities underground along Garfield Parkway. That has now been done – and now the 2 1/2 block, $2.4-million streetscape improvement project is underway on Garfield Parkway between Route 1 and the boardwalk. It will include wider and ADA-compliant sidewalks and curb ramps, pedestrian crossings, lighting, landscaping and improved signage for bicycle lanes. Work began this week and this phase will be completed by mid-May. No work will be done during the summer and then the final phase begins after Labor Day and is expected to be completed by mid-May of 2014.
