UPDATE: Rehoboth Man Shot by Trooper after Leading DSP on Chase west of Lewes

Feb 19, 2013 -- 3:02pm

8:55pm - A 42 year old Rehoboth man is in critical condition at Christiana Hospital after he was shot Tuesday afternoon during a traffic stop.  A State Trooper spotted Keith Schueller on Postal Lane and found he had active warrants for thefts and burglaries in Sussex County.  The trooper tried to stop Schueller who took off at a high rate of speed into the Sandy Brae development.  As he drove onto Plantations Road he collided with a car driven by a 70 year old Lewes man, who was not injured.  Schueller ran off on foot through a cornfield with now 2 troopers chasing him.  One trooper tried to use a taser on Schueller but it was ineffective.  When Schueller grabbed a shovel the trooper fired hitting the man in the chest.  The trooper – a 3 year veteran – has been placed on administrative leave.  Additional charges are pending.
