Snow Hill residents who petitioned for a traffic light at Routes 12 and 113 in December have been successful. The State Highway Administration has agreed to install a traffic light at the intersection.
The decision was announced last week, two months after residents of that area, near Snow Hill, insisted they did not want the J-turn that was planned. State Highway initially said the traffic counts weren't high enough for a light.
There have been about 80 accidents at the intersection in the past 12 years; during the past six years, there were two deaths.
The light will be up around mid-July and cost $500,000.
The J-turn would have cost $3.5 million.
