Revelers will be able to raise money for Dewey Beach's public safety agencies tonight.
The fifth annual Dewey Beach Winter Gala will be held tonight at The Starboard from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. The gala was moved to the Starboard because of damage to the Bay Center (where the gala is usually held) from Superstorm Sandy, and also because of the Hyatt Place Hotel construction project. Tickets are $85 each, and a limited number of tickets are still available.
The gala is organized by Starboard co-owner Steve Montgomery and Jim Bauerle of Dewey Beach Enterprises. Monty says it's a way to help the police department and beach patrol buy supplies that they need, especially since the town is so strapped for cash. He says it's also a way to say thank you to the lifeguards and police officers who help "make Dewey the best town it can be." The lifeguards and police help keep hundreds of thousands of visitors safe during the summer.
