The Salisbury-Ocean City-Wicomico Regional Airport set records for traffic last year.
Piedmont Airlines, which is based in Wicomico County, set a new annual record with just over 150,000 passengers going through the airport in 2012. The previous record from the year before was 143,736 passengers.
Midwest Air Traffic Control Services reported a record number of military aircraft movements through the airport last year. There were 13,520 takeoffs, landings and fly-bys. The airport’s location near several Air Force and Navy air bases is the reason for the high amount of military aircraft movements.
The 45,625 total takeoffs, landings and fly-bys of civilian and military planes at the airport last year was still short of the all-time record of 54,507 in 2002.
