DNREC Looking For Volunteers To Help Remove Invasive Plant from Cedar Swamp Wildlife Area

Feb 05, 2013 -- 2:35pm

DNREC’s Division of Fish and Wildlife is looking for volunteers to help staff remove an invasive plant from a wildlife area.

From 1 to 3 p.m. on February 16, DNREC will be working to remove ornamental boxwood shrubs from the Vogel Tract in the Cedar Swamp Wildlife Area east of Smyrna. The boxwood is overcoming the native plants in the area, and is destroying habitat for native wildlife as it spreads.

DNREC will be providing volunteers with hand saws, pruners, loppers with work gloves, but they can bring their own. Volunteers must be at least 15, and those under 18 need a signed parental consent form. Volunteers under 16 need to be accompanied by an adult.
