Plane failed to land in Virginia and was escorted by F-16s until it ran out of gas – pilot unconscious in cockpit
Coast Guard officials have called off the search for the pilot of a plane that crashed. Officials say the investigation will be turned over to the NTSB.
The Coast Guard was called after a single engine plane failed to land at Manassas Regional Airport in Virginia. The plane stayed in the air at 13,000 feet and entered restricted airspace in Washington, DC. F-16 aircraft spotted the pilot who looked unconscious in the cockpit and they escorted the plane until it ran out of gas and crashed into the Atlantic about 51 miles southeast of Chincoteague.
